High-level conference on nuclear disarmament
As a follow-up to the 2013 high-level meeting on nuclear disarmament, the UN General Assembly decided to hold a United Nations high-level international conference on nuclear disarmament from 14 to 16 May 2018 to review progress made on this subject. It will take place in the Trusteeship Council Chamber at the United Nations in New York. An organisational meeting will be held on 10 May 2018.
Please read this aide memoire from the UN containing complete details for civil society. Key deadlines and basic information are as follows:
The General Assembly, in its decision A/RES/72/251 of 24 December 2017, “Encourages the wider participation of civil society, including non-governmental organisations, academia and parliamentarians, in the conference, and requests the Secretary-General to draw up a list of nongovernmental organizations in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council that will participate in the conference.”
Accordingly, only representatives of NGOs with ECOSOC Consultative Status will be able to attend the conference or its organisational meeting. All NGO attendees must hold valid United Nations Headquarters grounds passes marked “ECOSOC”.
If you do not have ECOSCO status you may also complete the form listed below to indicate interest, but this is not a guarantee that the registration request can be granted.
All such NGOs that wish to be listed as participants for either the organisational meeting, or the Conference, should complete the form available at https://goo.gl/forms/fYI5V3qbwNeXTRzu1 no later than 15 March 2018.
Conference Room A will be available for NGOs throughout the high-level international conference in May. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to request the space.
Materials and statements
Further modalities of NGO participation at the high-level conference, including about sharing written materials or delivering oral statements, will be decided at the organisational meeting in May. We will update this webpage and circulate relevant information in early April as it becomes available.
